Turkey mourns victims of tragic mine blast

The Turkish Cultural Centers are deeply shocked by the catastrophic accident in Soma, Turkey. We are deeply saddened to follow the mining disaster that caused hundreds of deaths and left many others injured.

The bodies are carried 2km from inside the mine by a stream of volunteers. This is one of the worst mining disasters not only in Turkey, but also in the world. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives due to the mine explosion. We pray for peace during the rescue operation to save the remaining trapped workers.

On Tuesday a mining disaster claimed the lives of nearly 300 miners in Soma in Manisa, Turkey. According to reports the death toll is still rising. The disaster was caused by a fire in the mine. Efforts were made to save the victims, however only 88 have been rescued.

On behalf of Embrace Relief we would like to convey our condolences to the friends and relatives of the miners and our deepest sympathies to the families.
