Ramadan 2015 in Connecticut

Ramadan festivities ended with the annual Iftar Tent set up at the West Haven Green on July 15-16th, 2015.

West Haven Mayor Edward O’Brien together with his wife Roberta and assistant John Lewis joined the dinner on both days. After TCC President Mr. Omer Kizilcik’s welcoming speech, Mayor O’Brien greeted the community and expressed his warm thoughts to the Turkish Cultural Center for their efforts in bringing the community together.

The 7th Annual Iftar Tent held at the green this year hosted about 400 people from the community in total. The Turkish clothing and jewelry stands received great attention from the guests. The activities included two large bouncy houses and cotton candy for children.

On the 17th of July, Ramadan ended with a great celebration called, Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long fast during Ramadan and the start of a three-day feast.

The Turkish Cultural Center of Connecticut celebrated Eid al-Fitr at the West Haven Green with the rest of the community. Delicious food and deserts were served and gifts were given to all children gathered under the tent.
