The second of the Turkish Cultural Center Connecticut 9/11 Commemoration programs was held at the Turkish Cultural Center Connecticut West Haven Branch on September 28th 2011. The event began with a moment of silence followed by the national anthem of the United States of America. After the welcome speech, Amy Brin of Congregation Mishkan Israel and Imam Fatih Akdemir of CT Department of Correctional Services expressed their thoughts and prayers for 9/11 victims and their loved ones. A video presentation on 9/11 and the changes it brought to the world ensued the prayers.
After the video presentation Dr. Mustefa Guerbuz gave a small talk on the 9/11 tragedy and its effects on the perception of the American public. Captain Stacey of West Haven Fire Department and Chief Frank Limon and Asst. Chief Tobin Hensgen of New Haven Police Department accepted awards from the Turkish Cultural Center Connecticut for their services to the community. After the event the guests enjoyed home made Turkish pastries and desserts together with Turkish tea. The main sponsor of the night, the Fountain Magazine, presented all guests a copy of the latest issue of the Fountain Magazine, which is a special issue on 9/11 and its aftermath.
